There are two Innotek Ultrasmart Fences available. The Innotek IUC-4100 Ultrasmart Pet fenceing System is a fence only, and the Innotek IUC-5100 Ultrasmart Contain ‘N’ Train Pet Fencing System is a combined fence and 150 yard remote trainer.

Each of these products come with one collar, the IUC-4225 for the IUC-4100 Ultrasmart Fence, and the IUC-5225 for the IUC-5100 Ultrasmart Contain ‘N’ Train. The IUC-4225 will work as a fence collar only on both systems, and the IUC-5225 will work with both the fence and the remote.

So, why would you buy one over the other?

  • I want to add a dog to my Ultrasmart IUC-5100 Contain ‘N’ Train for the fence only
You only need to get the IUC-4225 collar
  • I want to add a dog to my IUC-5100 Ultrasmart Contain ‘N’ Train for both the fence and the remote trainer
The collar you need is the IUC-5225
  • I want to add a dog to my IUC-4100 Ultrasmart Fencing System
    An IUC-4225 collar is perfect

In a nutshell, if you have an IUC-5100 Ultrasmart Contain ‘N’ Train, you can add a dog just to the fence with the IUC-4225 Ultrasmart Collar, or to the fence and trainer with the IUC-5225 Ultrasmart Collar. FYI: The IUC-5100 has a two dog capacity for the remote trainer.

If you have an IUC-4100 Ultrasmart Pet Fencing System, you should only purchase an IUC-4225 Collar. FYI: The IUC-5225 would work with the fence, but it would additional cost for no benefit over the IUC-4225.

The IUC 5225 Collar has both Fence and Remote Training Capability

The Dog Electric Fence wire comes in two primary gauges: 20 gauge and 18 gauge. The lower the number, the thicker the wire and the more expensive the roll is. Both gauges are sold in 500 ft rolls. On it’s own, 500 ft of wire will enclose around ½ acre.

Basically the thicker the wire (the lower the gauge) the longer you can make your fence perimeter and still have your fence functioning 100%. We recommend that if you plan to use more than 1,000 ft of wire, you switch to the heavier, 18 gauge spools.

Question:

I have a dog who does not seem to respond well to the standard invisible fence. Is a stubborn dog fence any more effective?

Answer:

Yes, the PetSafe Stubborn Dog Fence is designed for dogs that do not respond well to standard levels of stimulation. The Stubborn Dog Fence has the highest intensity level available, and includes five levels of stimulation, all with a waterproof collar.

Remember – even though you have a product that is designed for a stubborn, or hard-to-train dog, you should follow the training best practices. Always use a positive reinforcement, and never, never a “pain compliance” training technique. Dogs respond to consistent training from a a person who is in an emotionally balanced state. We know he can be naughty, but don’t let your emotions get the better of you. If in doubt, consult a trained behaviorist.

So, the PetSafe Stubborn Dog Fence is a great solution for that dog who needs a little more correction.

Question:

Why is it that you don’t sell, or label your products “Invisible Fence”

Answer:

We sell technology that is identical to Invisible Fence, however, Invisible Fence is a registered trade name for companies that are approved to install and maintain an Electric Dog Fence for you. They supply the fence, installation and labor. So, we kind of sell invisible fences, but we can’t call them that and you install our fences yourself.

If you find the prospect of installing an electric dog fence to be too daunting, why not check out a Wireless Dog Fence? Great containment features and you are up and running in minutes.

I was thinking today about those dogs that attempt to rush through a fence. Sometimes people call us to ask for the “most powerful” system we have. While it is true that we do sell a Stubborn Dog Electric Fence, it is so important that you observe some basic guidelines. We know your dog can misbehave, but they can’t talk, so their communications skills are a little limited!

If you have a misbehaving dog, we suggest you contact your veterinarian to find a behaviorist, or look up a local dog trainer. It is possible you may be trying to punish your dog into compliance, or to put it another way, you are using pain compliance.

  • Train your dog in a positive way
  • Make him aware of the flags and the fence boundary
  • He should be rewarded for doing the right thing
  • Let him know that there are penalties for doing the wrong thing
  • Give him enough exercise – 45 minutes, twice per day
  • Don’t loose your temper
  • Get her/him spayed or neutered
  • Take him for walks outside the fence boundary (take the receiver collar off first)

The last bullet is about getting him socialized in the neighborhood. This way you introduce him to the sites, sounds and smells, while he is on the leash, under control and in what Cesar Milan calls a “calm submissive” state. This is just an introduction, so if in doubt, consult a professional.

What is it you do to keep your dog safely contained in your own yard? How do you keep him well behaved outdoors?

We received a call from a customer who was looking for two additional receiver collars for his fence. Problem was that he didn’t know what electric, underground fence he had. It seems like a simple problem, but it had been fitted by an Invisible Fence installer some time ago, then refitted by another installer.

After some time on the phone helping him locate the transmitter unit so that he could read off the serial number, we were read numbers that turned out to be the lightning protectors. Lightning protectors sit inline in order to prevent a lightning strike from destroying the transmitter, or causing damage to the house wiring.

For this particular customer, he had two lightning protectors (must have been from each of the visits from the installers). The transmitter unit, rather than sitting in-line, terminates each end of the wiring loop, so the wires in and the wires out lead to and from the transmitter unit. He unplugged the transmitter from the wall and read the serial number to us. We were able to identify the transmitter as being from an Innotek SD-2100 Rechargeable In-Ground Fencing System.

Knowing that the fence is an Innotek SD-2100, this gave us two options for collars: option 1, Innotek SD-2025 Basic Receiver Collar, or option 2, Innotek SD-2225 Rechargeable Receiver Collar.  Both receiver collars are compatible with the SD-2100. The difference is that the SD-2025 is about half the price of the SD-2225, but will require batteries to be changed periodically.

Our customer already had the collar charger, so he opted for the additional upfront cost of the Innotek SD-2225 Receiver Collars, knowing that an occasional charge would save on the cost of batteries over time. As with all of our collars, we shipped it to him via USPS 2-Day Air at no extra cost.

OK, so you’re on the fence about whether to, well … get a fence. They cost money and take some time install. Hey, why bother, maybe everything will just work out. Here are ten reasons why you need to keep your dog inside your own yard, with an Electric or Wireless Dog Fence.

10. Sure, your dog is cute, but your neighbor doesn’t necessarily think so.
9. Your neighbor is getting fed up with cleaning up your dog’s mess from his yard.
8. He chases the delivery guy and the mailman doesn’t think he’s cute
7. If you think your dog’s expensive now, think about potential vet bills.
6. Have you got a quote for a wood fence?
5. Do you like the view from your yard?
4. Out there he could get into pesticides or worse.
3. Cars are dangerous.
2. He could bite somebody.
1. Your dog is part of the family – keep him safe.

So – keep him your own yard.  It’s the responsible thing to do for you, your neighbors … and Fido!

Question:

How many dogs can I add to the IUC-5100?

Answer:

As you know, the IUC-5100 is a combined fence and trainer – which is why it is called a Contain ‘N’ Train system. The trainer is capable of handling two dogs. The kit comes with one IUC-5225 Ultrasmart Receiver Collar and extra collars are available.

To add dogs to the fence, you do not need the remote training feature. For this purpose, the number of dogs is essentially unlimited. To add dogs to the fence only, you still need an Ultrasmart Collar, and the IUC-4225 Ultrasmart Receiver Collar is perfect.

Question:

Will the Innotek Contain & Train collars work with the Pet Safe Stubborn Dog System?

Answer:

Unfortunately, no. The systems are different and not compatible with each other. Perhaps you could consider a remote trainer as an additional option. In this case, the dog would need two collars, one for the fence and one for the trainer. It sounds like you have multiple dogs, so the Innotek BT-502A Two Dog Basic Trainer would be a great option for you.

Another option is to consider one our Contain ‘N’ Train systems, such as the Innotek SD-3000 Basic Contain and Train, or the Innotek IUC-5100 Ultrasmart Contain ‘N’ Train Pet Fencing System. The fences would utilize your existing wiring and add some great features to boot – particularly the IUC-5100.
